GAMER

A wonderful soul-jazz excursion by Heath. Jimmy really hit his stride in the 70's and he did little wrong in that era. He also has a backup band that is just as powerful. Heath plays flute, tenor and soprano sax with a strength, Kenny Barron switches between Rhodes and Piano, Al and Mtume hold the percussion down, and Cranshaw is on electric bass. It's very much in the Black Jazz pocket and shocking that it's still 15 bucks. You can pay a lot more for records of half the caliber. My only criticism is that they can get a little noodly/aimless at times but still good.

Also on cd since 2008 (Jazz Beat label) a digipak with same artwork than the cobblestone Lp that includes the complete "the Gap Sealer" + five of the six tracks from " Love and Understanding" as bonus tracks + a 16 page-booklet.Sounds quite decent.76:17 min. of gorgeous early 70's jazz (!).
