The first EP of Armand Van Helden was revealed to me as a surprise when I first bought it back in 1994. Of course, the main reason to buy it was to get a hand on that "Witch Doktor" track that hypnotized hundreds of clubbers. But then, there were the other tracks. "Nrongo Ra Mrongo": very strong tribal anthem with a sample from an African choir that ends in a festival of percussions ; "Break Da 80's", a funny recollected 80's flashback ; the abstract "Donkey" and the dark "I Feel It". This EP exposed Van Helden's style to the masses and looking back in time, we can see it's been a long way to the top, but how well deserved for this NYC resident DJ. 4/5

ok when it comes to deep house new york style..armand van helden is one of the pionners ..who doenst know armand van helden doesnt live on planet earth the witch doctor is a track with a dark soul that can make anybody move ..i would day is a new york house classic ..and its been played all over the world ..armand van helden is a maestro.. producer remixer and dj himself he is been around since this house music was born and he is still around!!!
