This album was originally released as: http://www.discogs.com/Rene-Hernandez-Percussive-Latino-Cha-Cha-Cha/release/3394837on Audio Fidelity's Doctored for... series. Audio Fidelity at the time of release owned Coco Records and put this record out with Johnny Pacheco's name on it. Johnny Pacheco indeed plays the flute on this album but only as a sideman of the Rene Hernandez Orchestra. Actually the orchestra here is very much the same as Machito's Orchestra.Playing is tight and well arranged throughout the record, but it's nothing like the style of Pacheco acquired a couple of years later when he founded his own Fania Records label. But all in all, it's a very good cha cha/mambo album, although a little bit easier than the aggressive rhythms of Perez Prado or complex jazz stylings of Machito. Lovers of early stereo albums will like this no doubt. Just don't expect too much of that Pacheco/Fania sound, there's none.
