Sky was a trio of teenagers—Doug Fieger, John Coury, and Rob Stawinski—who showed surprising musical maturity. The group started out as their members finished high school in the Detroit, Michigan area. It consisted of Doug Fieger (vocalist and bassist), John Coury (guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist), and Rob Stawinski (drummer and vocalist). Sky gained a local following after serving as an opening act for popular groups such as Jethro Tull, The Who, Joe Cocker, Bob Seger, and The Stooges. Sky also played with Traffic numerous times. Their album goes from hard driving rock all the way to soft acoustic ballads, with sophisticated arranging work to hold it all together. Their sound was country rock along the lines of The Grateful Dead's then current phase (their best) mixed with harmony and hard rock influences; Traffic also strongly influenced their style. Sky offered a diverse experience, and this album is stacked with the likes of Bobby Keys, Jim Price, Doris Troy, and Chris Wood in support. Stawinski went on to play bass with Badfinger and Fieger of course fronted The Knack.

It's always fun to dig into the past. The Cars were once Milkwood, Foreigner once had Black Sheep, Chevy Chase once was in Chameleon Church, and long before THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, Gary Busey played drums and sang in Carp. The long story of The Knack started here when "Beatles loving" Doug Figer left Oak Park, Michigan behind to start a music career in California. He teamed with Coury and Stawinski to form SKY. This album featured the roots of The Knack: high pitched vocals, pop flair, expert playing and great melodic songwriting. Doug played the bass and sang with a few songs adding harmonica ("Good Girls DO"). The songs range from RINGO STARR solo material with horns and background female singers, to a "Bad To Me" (Billy J. Kramer) ripoff called "I Still Do" which is the prize off this record. The cover art which is grainy has Doug doing his best Pete Townshend imitation ala. WHO'S NEXT. The other 2 look bored. A bonus fold out poster was included which was somber with the guys standing near a window and the light reflecting off them spell out the SKY logo. Find of another ripoff of George Harrison's poster in ALL THINGS MUST PASS box set. A must have for Knack fans all others BACK OFF!!!
