Very disappointing of you, Discogs. This only artificially inflates the price elsewhere.

I assume this has been prohibited from sale on Discogs due to a weird licensing issue. Very naughty, as the 1980 press is clearly a legit Japanese release, so I'm not sure quite how this can be justified.Note that the Japanese only Blue Bazar 45 taken from the OST - 'All Is Gone' - is still permitted to be sold at present, so perhaps it does relate to some D.I.S.C.O. copyright infringement. Tragically I acquired a copy of the original Japanese LP for $5.00 about 20 years ago but traded it on! Epic fail. :/

Why exactly can't you get this? Is it because some of the songs are reaaaally close Donna Summer ripoffs?
Llathidan
Nope, as most songs recorded are just pieces of songs that came before them. For some reason, this is an "unofficial" pressing, but I have a copy and it sounds great. Must have been done from the master tapes.

Can anyone explain why this "release is blocked from sale in the marketplace"?
Golden freddi
I read that it was because, originally, the producers of the movie wanted to use songs by Donna Summer and Pat Benatar that were popular at the time of the movie's filming in 1980, but purchasing the rights to use those songs was well outside the film's budget. So, Paul Zaza quickly sat down and wrote several disco songs that were similar to those Summer and Benatar hits to use in the film, and this resulted in a $10 million copyright lawsuit, which was settled for less than half that. So the soundtrack was never released in the U.S. and only in Japan.

I don't understand; is this considered a bootleg? It seems legit.

Well said Columbia39. I had a copy for sale, was shocked to see it yanked ... May move it to eBay in the next few months.

I'll tell you why: Because of lazy administrators who didn't even THINK when prohibiting the sale of every bootleg on the market. Such bootlegs like concert CDs from Renaissance Records labeled as such have slipped by, while legitimate releases like a Rolling Stones box set from Italy, nearly every stinkin' version of David Ruffin's My Whole World Ended ever pressed (even the Hip-O Select box set The Great David Ruffin: The Motown Solo Albums Vol. 1, which contains that very record - everything else he did is still allowed to sell, so what does Discogs have against that one album?!), and a Canadian 8-track issue of Flash and the Pan's self-titled debut have had this happen. Why couldn't they have just done this SLOWLY to ensure nothing legitimate got blocked from sale rather than crack down and ban 'em all in one fell swoop? I mean, what's this gonna happen to next, every LP, 7'', cassette, 8-track and CD that features Rex Smith's "You Take My Breath Away"?

Best disco soundtrack lp ever! Nice pressing too. Wish I had another copy to play Prom Night part 1 and 2 back to back.

This so a great movie and excellent music, just ordered the movie in bluray!I wish I could get the soundtrack.
Marirne
look on ebay. Sometimes there are cd bootlegs. I will caution you that the album is mixed very poorly, but so is the original vinyl, which I own. I wish someone would remix and remaster.
Steep
I wish this was released on CD. Amazing disco music!

Thanks for the heads up!

It seems to be a bootleg. How is the sound quality?
Cointrius
it IS released on CD, check eBay. There were 1,000 made, I snagged one.
