I tried acid a few times back in the 70's, and if this music had been around then, it would have been something that I would have liked to have listened to while tripping. Maybe. Maybe I would never have recovered. Oleg Kostrow is, or was, of course, half of Messer Für Frau Müller, and this is one of his earlier solo offerings. Within the playing time of this I hear Perrey & Kingsley, Roger Rabbit, Ironside, and maybe some theme music from Krimi films or something I've seen but can't quite put my finger on. And that's the fun of this & some of the Messer Für Frau Müller stuff, is trying to identify what goes whizzing by as you're listening. Perrey & Kingsley's "Spooks In Space" is wrapped in this loop of what sounds like music from a 50's cartoon or some kind of children's show, that seems whimsical at first until it goes on and on, at which point it starts to seem hypnotic, then maybe claustrophobic, and maybe just a bit creepy. There are some grand sounding symphonic bits that are somewhat tempered by samples of Roger Rabbit making silly noises. All in all, this is very appealing stuff, & while I liked it on the first listen, the more I listen, the more it grows on me, and the more I actually hear.
