Rinse 01 is the initiating release of the Rinse series by Rinse FM founder Geeneus, and it is hard, fast, and pounding for the whole 70 minutes. Most of the tracks are pitched up dramatically, making the whole mix seem frenetic and hyper. However, I was quite impressed - I haven't seen another grime mix CD that is anywhere close in terms of quality of track selection or flow. The mixing is terrible, but it's extremely difficult to mix all of these tracks to begin with, and it's supposed to be representative of a Rinse radio mix, anyhow.

Rinse head honcho Geeneus serves up the first of a series of Rinse mixes that aim to reflect the sounds as represented by the now legendary Radio station. There is a very fine selection of tunes on offer here and I really love the way that the first three tracks flow into each other, particularly Skepta's bars over Headhunter's bass - ruff stuff. D.O.K.'s Warning is a highlight and a track that I always wish I owned, but only seemed available on mixtapes.I wan't too keen on the Stageshow megamix in the middle of the CD. It just jarred with the flow that Geeneus had built up to that point. I reckon 3kout into Cockney Thug would have been better and the Stageshow section could have been inserted towards the end of the mix just as the Funky showcase begins with Mr Apple. That means that I would only have had to listened up to Wonder's Can't Stand It, thus avoiding all of the sections that I'm not too keen on.Overall it's a very good representation of Rinse the radio station (although if it'd been mixed now 75% of the mix would be Funky) and what it has to offer and Geeneus is a solid mixer who knows his tunes.
