Anyone else's copy considerably warped on the outer edge? So bad the needle jumps. Purchased one on Discogs and it arrived in that condition - not sure if it's a manufacturing defect or just my copy.
Saberblade
The only vinyl pressing that has "When It Started" on this album. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Hono
Youre wrong Im pretty sure. The original US also had that song after 9/11 happened.

I think some commenters on Discogs forget the fact that there is actually a recording process - microphones, a mixer, an engineer and all this can accumulatively effect the presence and ultimately the listening experience along way before mastering. This Strokes album was recorded in a 'dimly lit basement' and doesn't have the recording fidelity of a multi million dollar studio, which inversely doesn't have the creative vibe of a dimly lit basement. It's not a great fidelity experience, with vocals being sung through a £300 mic or into a guitar amp on many tracks... "I would start turning the knobs on every piece of equipment until the frowns began turning into smiles. That was the technique for working with The Strokes" - doesn't sound like an exact science really or a high fidelity recording. It's also worth noting that a lot of smaller studios had poor quality sound cards at their centre, poor in comparison to todays incredible AD/DA converters. Tape was still infinitely better in my opinion in 2000, but most couldn't bare to work without a computer. We all know that when a high fidelity recording is remastered / pressed by Music on Vinyl, they deliver a stellar job. This is a brash sounding album of a garage rock band that was recorded in a basement studio on reasonably budget equipment. It's a spontaneous recording, not the audiophile experience, something that I am sad about as in the right hands, it could very well have been a sonic masterpiece too.Straight after, I put on my beloved Mobile Fidelity version of the Pixies 'Doolittle' for a reality check. If only....

You are quite right. Also, I hear the MFSL is the best on average, but the original press has some more rockin tunes on the tracks furthest out on the record sides. Have you tried one?
Winail
Clean pressing but the sound is so compressed I thought something was wrong with my stereo system. Buyer beware.
Kitaxe
LifterBro Is This It isn't really an "audiophile" sounding album to begin with. No exactly yeah but its good enough to have worse and better sounding pressings Im sure.

anthonylukefoto Clean pressing but the sound is so compressed I thought something was wrong with my stereo system. Buyer beware. Got a better alternative?

I have a copy of this album which matches with the US cover, barcode and track list. However, as other users I doubt this is the original pressing. The record is a heavy version 150-180 grams I guess, and the front cover has a sticker with black background and "The Strokes" in white letters and "Is This It" in red.
Reggy
is there any difference between this one and the bmg press from the same year?
Bludsong
Like most Music On Vinyl releases it sounds great. Pressing and mastering are both on point as I hear it. Im unable to directly compare to an original but if I had to bet my money on the best issue since the first press I would definitely go with this one. Both are by GC from Sterling so its basically the same great mastering from a better pressing company as I see it. MOV usually do DMM cuts from what I know which might be different from the original though and the original was cut by RJ but here we cant be sure with nothing in the runouts.Equipment used:Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge Cyrus 2 AmplifierSystem Fidelity SF-3050 tower speakersCustom made HQ speaker cables

This entry should only be for the rare 2001 version with "New York City Cops" and the US cover. Per an interview in 2001/2002 with Julian Casablancas (I read it back then and wish I could find it now), about 5,000 copies were pressed before 9/11 with the song "New York City Cops."After 9/11, "New York City Cops" was replaced with "When It Started" on the US CD version. They didn't press more US vinyl copies for several years (there were just the original ~5,000 floating around), but when they did start re-pressing vinyl copies years later, they kept "New York City Cops" and used the same catalog number/bar code as the 2001 vinyl version. If you found a new record at a store recently for ~$20 with the US cover and "New York City Cops" (even with the same catalog number), it is not this original 2001 pressing and should be listed separately. If someone out there has vinyl copies of the original and later pressings, there are probably subtle runout variations that could differentiate the pressings.
Stylish Monkey
Mine is exactly the same as described by sam.the.eagle .
Doktilar
I got mine today from a record store in Germany. It's exactly as described above: Barcode: 0 7863-68045-1 4, Runout, etched, side A: 07863-68045-1-REI-A RJ. But it says "Sterling" instead of "Welcome to 1979." Some people have suggested that "Welcome to 1979" must be a newer pressing, because that studio only opened in 2008, according to their website. I'm hoping that the one I picked up is original, because its says "Sterling," but it seems unlikely, and there seems to be no way to tell for sure unfortunately.
Anaragelv
Has anybody heard the 2001 release vinyl compared to this 2010 release that is 180g. Is the sound quality that different?
Xar
Does anyone know of a pressing that has "When It Started" instead of "NYC Cops"??
Silver Globol
The story of the New York band The Strokes is best compare with the breakthrough of Oasis. The band around Liam and Noel Gallagher was about ten years ago a real sensation, while everyone could hear their music is anything but original was. Apparently there was at that time in England need yet another Beatles revival and Oasis was the right band in the right place. The music of The Strokes is also not original. You think at first to a poor absorption of Iggy Pop or The Velvet Underground. But then it turns out that the cd just out of 2001 comes to five very young customers and that you're listening to. Main group member is singer/songwriter Julian Casablancas. He has managed to eleven very catchy to write songs with refreintjes you can whistle after one listen. Despite the radio-unfriendly, dirty guitar sound brought out the first single "The Modern Age makes it easy to reach the top ten of the charts in England. But yes, there is one not averse to a good hype. In Netherlands we are usually what more down-to-Earth, but nothing I would be surprised if 2001 will go down in the history books as the year in which The Strokes by vomiting. Listen to the classics-in-to-be Barely Legal and Someday and you have to admit that The Strokes in 2001 the right band in the right place. Not original so, but very good.
Trash
I found your review here very amusing. Particularly "I would be surprised if 2001 will go down in the history books as the year in which The Strokes by vomiting" and "five very young customers". God bless.
Dilkree
there seems to be a repressed version using the same barcode info. it does not have "welcome to 1979" in runout and is pressed at united. "WG/NRP" is etched into runout
Skunk Black
Is the matrix runout for side A of this version that you're talking about 07863-68045-1-A2-RE-3? 2 is superscript. I can't seem to find it here.
Fenrinos
I have this issue and it has the original lp song lineup with New York City cops. When it started replaced NYC cops on cd due to 9/11.
Axebourne
Does this version have When It Started or New York City Cops?
Risinal
I think that there was a September release of this LP in the US, which is why there is confusion on this. this October release, I believe, is the one with "when it started" replacing "nyc cops". the "original" US release is not listed, otherwise. I think it was released in September.
Mbon
When It Started replaced New York City Cops on the CD, not the vinyl
GODMAX
Any possibility this bootleg was "released" at least as early as 2010 when I received my copy?
Uaoteowi
Track listing says New York City Cops. However, B4 is "When it Started"
Ironrunner
is this a counterfeit?
Anayajurus
Yes it is
Kage
If it has Sterling stamped in the deadwax its genuine.
