Peras
The 2014 tape edition of Cut-Ups, Drones & Other Weird is not a straight reissue and actually a slightly different entity than previously released versions. There are some exclusive tracks which weren't on other editions, and the running order is different as well. This is one of the most varied and consistently interesting releases by the classic Macro line-up and one that everyone should own. Things start off with a few minutes of the dense cut-up of harsh noise electronics that Macro are known for, then segue into weird psychedelic noise that sounds like satellite signals from outer space. This more or less is the pattern of tracks for the next 90 minutes and it works amazingly well. This release, more so than others, prominently features some good use of synthesizers and stretches the Macro sound palette. My favorite Macro tapes are the ones that find a good balance of contrast between being harsh and also knowing when to pull back just enough and play with the dynamics. Cut-ups and drones drives this balance incredible well and although being a monolithic C90, never gets dull.Classic Macro release by the original line-up of Rodger Stella and Joseph Roemer.
