While The Wrist is a great stomping techno banger; funky and driving percussion, effective loop and vocal snippet with a shoving bass line and plenty well placed breaks - would fit nicely into many Drumcode, Corb, Illgorhthym sets, and the similar, it is The Cookie which really makes one scratch his head over here.Starting out as your typically pounding swede techno cut from that period, it transforms into a dense and very complex off beat composition, impossible to follow or insert into a DJ set and get away with. So cerebral, so heavy, so much going on - amazing. But then, before you know it, in undergoes under metamorphosis, and comes back as a high caliber IDM piece, topped off with an incredibly imaginative and touching melody work, punctuated by softer break beats. What a ride do we have here! A twelve minute ride through multiple moods and styles, an undertaking a lesser producer could not have gotten away with.Displaying multiple faces of Henrik B in such a short time span, and all of it with so much quality and confidence is something worth lending an ear to. Replay value is guaranteed here, as this track is such a grower. The first few times I listened to it, I just couldn't cope with the sudden changes and transitions from one style to the next, but the compositional skill required to complete The Cookie gradually won me over. Now I am certain: this may not be the most club friendly or accessible track of his, but it is most definitely one of Henrik's most challenging and most rewarding pieces - ever!
