As a witness of the somewhat doubtable progression of Hard House over the years, I've found many of the tracks by OD404 producer (if that reference holds any weight now) Dom Sweeten highly refreshing. 'Shark Bait' is a track with genuine attitude, unlike so many of the over-hyped and empty tracks the scene has encountered recently - this particular number features some pacing and somehow 'funky' percussion, an ominous and incessant bass-line, various scratchy cuts and a perfectly-dropped cocaine reference to create some really underground, petroleum-fuelled dancefloor mayhem. The entrance of a surprisingly catchy and slick riff adds a menacing edge to the slightly dated hoover sound, and the entire mix glides along like butter on oil, a real credit to Sweeten's production skills. The aptly named 'Shark Bait' - which razor-sharp, bloodthirsty DJ could resist such a treat? - is probably Defective Audio's best production to date, and I for one hope to hear more in the future.
