Shadowredeemer
Pastoral, drone-tinged psych-folk that integrates Tucker's rustic guitar style with the loopy bits of his Imbogodom project and the more celestial sounds of his work with Ginnungagap. Tucker's rickety acoustic guitar picking and plaintive vocals form the backbone of most tracks, but are then adorned with layers of cello, reeds, tape loops, and percussion. On one hand, most of the album is modestly melodic and charming, but the surreal lyrics and clanging drone elements lurking in the background add a lot of depth. This is my favorite Thrill Jockey release from 2012 thus far. I'd recommend it highly to fans of Ben Chasny, Mathew Sawyer, Richard Youngs, Canterbury prog, and Tim Smith.
