I found O'Keeffe Images at a now shuttered store in San Francisco, in a tray of newly accessioned discs about to be placed on the electronica shelves. Of course this was a misfiling. Yet that such a confusion would occur by store personnel who are seldom stumped by musical genres and styles piqued my curiosity. And what a find this disc turned out to be! Both kinetic and atmospheric, O'Keeffe Images delivers uncannily similar kinds of experiences that make the best DJ mixes so special. There is a keenness of "the Other" in the room, but also a belongingness to it. Ruehr's training in dance is quite evident in all the pieces, but especially "Shimmer." I would enthusiastically recommend the disc for househeads wanting to expand their tastes into classical (with the suggestion that the Brandenburg Concertos might actually have claim to being the one of the earliest forms of house music). RIYL Debussy's Nocturnes (but not the Sirènes movement), Symphony of Psalms by Stravinsky, or just about anything by Bartók. Also pairs very well with Remasterpiece by Chris Coco & Sacha Puttnam.
