Mugison's unique blend of indie folk and electronica comes to the fore on MUGIMAMA! IS THIS MONKEYMUSIC? "I Want You" has all the ache of a psychedelic ballad, whereas "The Chicken Song" take a more mysterious route with its piano chords and bizarre chicken-based lyrics. The acoustic, touching "2 Birds" takes a simpler route, as does the twangy "What I Would Say In Your Funeral." But if that's too normal for you, the random conglomeration of rock, hip-hop and funk of "Sad As A Truck" shakes things up right up. Luckily "I'd Ask" brings us back to the singer-songwriter vein, while "Murr Murr" has a blues-rock strum to it. "Salt" has a storybook grace to it, while "Afi Minn" closes the album with a harmonica frenzy which leads into a hidden track of ambient sounds from the studio. A pleasant and eclectic work.
