A Big Fat 10/10 for Kaleidoscope, just what underground rave was all about crazy quirky sounds. amazing tune. love it.

To elaborate on the previous review, this was indeed made by a child - my friend Andrew Wright (Uppy) was only 15 I believe, when this was put together using "Soundtracker" on his Amiga A500. I joined him for his second EP when Chill became Uproar records, and my track (Nexocis) was put together on my Amiga A500 using a program called "Sound FX" a year before it was eventually released! If it sounds lo-fi, that's the reason why. We were striving to make it sound more high quality at a time when the dirty, raw breakbeat sound was just starting to emerge.

Dope track! I wish 15yr olds still made music this awesome.

Kaleidoscope is driven by rough synths and a very bouncy breakbeat that has been given some nice twists by scratching. The origins of manipulating breakbeats towards jungle can be found here. The tune is relatively slow as is typical for the time, which makes it only more bouncy. When I bought this I was hoping for another breakbeat tune on the B-side, but Andromeda isn't that. Still, it came as a pleasant surprise. It leans more towards Chill-typical bleep techno, though this one is extraordinarily melodious. A friend said it sounds like it has been arranged by children, and that's probably what it makes sound so fresh and playful.
