Ironrunner
nev. Like the name, this artists output was short and (bitter)sweet. so little material, of such a high caliber. If you are already familiar with the material on GPR, then nothing will shock you here. Plaintive Detroit inspired melodies laid over minimal but intriguing electronic percussion. What I like about nev is how well it has stood the test of time, and like so much of the music from this era, still manages to outperform so much of the "new minimalism" that techno of all guises has moved into since the dawn of the 21st century. no amount of digital trickery can replace an artist with some synths, a sampler and a few good ideas. unfortunately, due to the diminutive amount of work nev produced, I highly doubt you will see this released digitally, nor will it receive the cheap and bastardized re-release treatment that GPR did such a poor job on with the black dog and luke slater albums (thankfully, im referring only to the artwork, the music on those seminal albums remains intact!). But if you are ever in a used shop and you see this around, I would say it’s even worth paying full album price despite it only being six songs.
