Ese
Slightly cheesy but alarmingly lovable collision of prog rock, space rock, and a sort of orchestral bombastic pop. The closest artist I'd be able to compare this album to is early Thomas Dolby, maybe with a dash of ELO, a pinch of Jean-Michel Jarre. Great atmosphere abounds: fun transitions and changes, welcome melodies and chord progressions, lovable keyboard and drum tones, evocative use of noise as texture. Anything newly released in 2001 that sounds even a bit like this is surely ironic to the hilt — but this album, released in 1978, wasn't ironic at all, and it's all the more charming for its earnestness.
