It’s worth noting that the art direction of this LP was by none other than the late and great Alex Steinweiss, the inventor of the 12” record cover as we know it.

Arthur C Clarke is reputed to have played this recording of 'Bicycle built for two' to Stanley Kubrick while they were working on 2001 and the result will be familiar if you recall the sequence where Dave Bowman de-programs HAL and he regresses; finally singing the song as he shuts down.

This is an innovative and extremely unusual album which came about through research work at Bell Labs in the late 50's and early 60's. The tracks are either cover versions or compositions by scientists that are designed to illustrate the different ways in which computers can make music. The highlight is 'Bicycle built for two', which features some unusual synthesised singing!
