This is a special release of the "Record Store Day", April 2018
Numbered copies also exist: Lumpy Gravy Primordial
180g translucent burgundy colored vinyl,

A curiously inconsistent piece which started out as a ballet but probably didn't make it.

Mr.mclav
WHY are only some numbered? It's the exact same release.
Arryar
Typically it's to indicate that you have a first run. The Hendrix reissues do this as well, numbering the first 5,000 copies. Some people like to know they are getting a reissue that utilizes metal parts that aren't overly used and therefor potentially worn out and having lost fidelity along the way. But...To some degree...It's also just kinda...A gimmick.
Mr_Mix
One other observation: the intro to 'I Sink Trap' is different on this release compared to the same track on 'Lumpy Money.' Here it is identical to the start of 'VII Foamy Soaky' (an arrangement of 'King Kong'). On 'Lumpy Money' it's a spoken intro with a short burst of percussion.Presumably this means they used a different master (safety?) tape. See here for a description of the two versions of the Capitol cartridge release:http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/misc/Lumpy_Gravy.html
Lost Python
why are some of these numbered and some are not? Bought mine in the UK for RSD 2018, no numbering
Bandiri
Why does the description say this release isn't numbered? Seems all of our copies have numbers on the back.
Daiktilar
Mine doesn't have a number - purchased in the UK on RSD, could it be export copies aren't numbered?
TheFresh
Make the edit man! here is six more words man
Moonshaper
#3000 here! $30, better than expected, long live the bop shop
POFOD
Hey, are these numbered? On the back of mine is a gold stamped number. Mine is 4702. Anyone know?
invasion
#1912 here. There were quite a few at the shops I went to yesterday, and they weren't exactly marching out the door at $60 a pop!
Quashant
I have # 2496 here. Apparently un-numbered copies also exist.
Hunaya
Seems you are right.... Mine is 2861. Thanks for the information!
Uyehuguita
You may have heard this on the Lumpy Money cd but you only think you did. Drop it on your turntable, twist the volume knob up, and scare your neighbors.

A couple of comments. The record and packaging are both very nicely done, but it was horribly expensive here in Australia. AUD$60 for a 23 minute EP! Curious what it was going for elsewhere. The playback is not strictly pure mono, ie the channels are not identical, so the tape was played and the lacquer cut with a stereo tape head and cutting head. Also, should this be listed as a release under the main entry for Lumpy Gravy, since this program was originally released as a Capitol 4-track cartridge? See here:https://www.discogs.com/Frank-Zappa-Lumpy-Gravy/release/5797422

On the Gold Coast...I would have thought it'd be cheaper in Sydney than in Queensland?
RED
where was that? I saw it for $60 at two shops in Sydney (one of which is usually cheaper than the other).
Livina
I'm also in Australia,I paid $49.00 for mine (number #1458)
Umdwyn
A numbered copy cost me $30 here in the US. They were not plentiful, gone soon after store opening. Were all copies numbered?
Efmprof
I paid 27 bucks for it in LA. . . .
Kagaramar
I think it needs its own listing. It is not Lumpy Gravy. The four track listing needs to be a discreet listing as it is the orchestral sections in full that were chopped up and interpolated on the Lumpy Gravy album. I love this record.
