Fantastic Brazilian jazz cd. This is purely traditional in the sense you get the upbeat samba like rhythms intermingled with slower bossa nova tunes and nothing too modern in the mix. Neves was one of the pioneers of Brazilian bossa nova and here here manages to conjure up a refreshing sun-lit mix of traditional 60s era bossa nova with a modern modern feel and no added fluff.The music is accented by glorious string arrangements, tight percussion, saxophone solos and of course his very skillful nylon string guitar. All the compositions have a long lasting melodic hook and sing-song like which gives the overall mood of the recording one might relate to sipping a Caipirinha on a beach Rio!The album was recorded in the mid 1980s and is almost all instrumental if you discount the chants that accent some of the tracks which has no lyrics per se. I like my Brazilian best served with fewer vocals hence my penchant for 60s era Stan Getz!This is a classic in my book and Ive owned the cd since the 1980s and still find it one of gems few make mention of when speaking of Brazilian music. Sad to find out of his passing RIP Oscar your music will always fill anyone welcoming listener with a sun filled musical escapade!
