Great Trance, will never understand the morons saying this is 'mainstream', 'safe' or 'not proper trance'.

Most of what I listen to today is techno, tech house and "true" progressive house but I still like to go back in time and listen to what got me into edm in the first place, and this is one of those albums. I find classic trance to be much better than the current stuff for the most part. This is a good classic trance album with many big tracks and being mixed on 2 actual turntables. While I think IOS 2 is a bit better this is still a must have for any hardcore electronic music fans.

In Search Of Sunrise is widely criticised for being mainstream and safe, and that is true to an extent, but it's still a good listen, contains a lot of the fin-de-siècle trance sounds and styles which have now disappeared, and is well structured as a mix.Fully half of these tracks are vocal trance, immediately distinguishing it from the Magik series and indeed most of Tiesto's mix compilations to date, but when the songs are of the quality of Mercury and Solace and Calling Your Name, even the sniffiest trance purist would have a hard time finding fault with them. The vocal of Remember (To The Millennium) is a little on the corny side, and Billie Ray Martin's Honey doesn't fit at all, but these notwithstanding, most of the material here is of a high quality.Sparkles is a stunning finale to the disk, and The Reachers Of Civilization contains a captivating spoken vocal recalling (possibly) the classical era or pre-Columbian America - or perhaps northern European holidaymakers arriving in the resorts of the Mediterranean.ISOS 3 was the first instalment to have an official geographic designation, but this first album is Ibizan in all but name (number 6 in the series is officially dedicated to Ibiza, but focuses on daytime and evening vibes rather than the night-time club evocations of this album). This album contains a high proportion of tracks by English and American producers, in contrast to the almost exclusively Dutch and German make-up of most of Tiesto's releases until this point.

Nice to finally get a copy. This was I guess, the outing of Tiesto on the Trance scene and by 2005 or so we were all heartily sick of him and his genre. As time has gone on it's nice to revisit and collect all the albums that you might not have touched at the time.I picked this up 'cos I had ISOS2 and wanted to get the first one, turned up for 3 quid in a charity shop and it was a no-brainer.I likes it, lovely melody doesn't take itself to seriously, not too many arpeggio's nice steady pace. Reminds me what got me into the trance in the first place! So from a 2013 perspective Fantastic snapshot of 1999 I'm happy!

That Lange remix is so crap quality on my copy, anyone else with this problem?!

PERFECTION!!!!!! The Best ISOS Album. I love the intro...

FLAWLESS. The best ISOS by Tiesto and for me this is the pinnacle of turn of the century trance. Every track is pounding, with the best being 'mercury & solace', 'dark blue', 'going up', 'i believe (tandu remix)', 'far from over' and the immortal 'sparkles'. Amazing release!!
Captain America
Not sure what the hype is behind this one. There are a couple good tunes, several bad ones, and it's cliche uplifting trance for the most part.

This CD has great melodies and vocals (take for example Billie Ray Martin or The Morrighan or Libra pres. Taylor) and it is quite a skilled mix. Continuity is good and the first track really sinks you into this sea of melody. However i tend to prefer Nyana Indoor to this, it has better melodies. Anyway it is a must have in your collection. Tiesto has put a lot of effort to this, a lot of work and you really enjoy it in the end. It leaves a good feeling also.

I was going to write a review on this since I am making my way through the ISOS series, but then I saw this review for ISOS2 and basically, it is spot on for what I thought about ISOS1. Saves me some writing! Here is hoping that the later ISOS are different from the first and second because they are pretty uninspiring for anyone who listened to a lot of trance back when these CDs were made."Review by Sykonee Apr 26, 2005 (edited over 5 years ago)referencing In Search Of Sunrise 2, CD, Comp, Mixed, SONGBIRD CD 05I honestly can't see what the big deal about this release is.Having more or less ignored Tiesto's DJ mixes for other material, I was interested to see what the three time #1 DJ had to offer. Almost all his fans will say this is one of his crowning achievments so I gave it a shot.It starts out pleasently chilled out enough, which was the theme of these mixes from what I hear, but things take a turn for Vocal Valley with some very abrupt changes (including one very dodgy mix, I must add) before going into harder territory to finish off. Above dude is partially right, but there is nothing like Renaissance (The Mix Collection) series in the world of Electronic - Trance/Techno especially....Renaissance the Mix Collection Part1 (1994) & Renaissance the Mix Collection Part2 (1997) both by DJ Sasha & John Digweed ... It's a bigger stocker ...Outstanding musical instruments combinations... Worth able to try out for the lovers of Electronic/Progressive House generes. Once you listen to Renaissance ... You won't be listining to anyone else more...

the best compilation of the tree editions of ISOS so far, it is from back in the time that trance was still "newer" and more exciting then nowadays. I remember calling every local recordstore to check out who had this cd first available. Brilliant trackselection with unknown charttoppers like Marc Vision - Timegate and Gypsy - I Trance You. Warm and soulfull mixing, excellent representation of the trancescene back in the days. For me Tiësto was back in the time the true #1, sadly he turned into a different direction nowadays..

This was the first DJ Tiesto compliation I was introduced to.. I had listened to all the Renaissance series with DK, Howells, Seaman and a few others, and thought I had heard the best there was to offer... damn I was so far off I almost fell off the curb... Every cut on the CD was intended to be there.. Hear it once and you'll know what I mean.. You can't imagine it being anything different, it's perfect! Tiesto is truely gifted.. Buy this CD and you'll experience a whole new world in Trance.. this one is "one of a kind", never to be heard again.
