Legend 33
Popped this on while I was working and about ten seconds into the first song I'd swiveled my chair around with an exclamation of "Holy shit!" The sound on this record is just glorious; crisp, precise, well-balanced and lush. I've noticed a trend with vinyl from Modest Mouse: it sounds better than pretty much any other contemporary artist out there, and this is no exception. Folks have complained that this isn't his "best" album, and while the energy level here is definitely less frenetic than his other records, I still think it's an excellent record. Maybe that's because Modest Mouse has always been a departure from my usual listening habits (folk and classical), but overall I feel like this absolutely stands up to the rest of his discography. It's just a little different, heavier and deeper and less frenzied, but no less excellent.

This isn't considered Modest Mouse's greatest by any stretch, but...I just can't get tired of it. I can listen to this over and over. So I have to give it 5 stars just for that. Also, I think this pressing sounds great...much better than the iTunes MP3s I originally had.

Super album. It´s just getting better and better.

Really good album, Pistols is the only "not good" song.
Ffan
then you dont get it, Issac worked with Andrew Weiss to produce pistol if your not familiar with Andrew then that why "you dont get it"

Cool album, sounds amazing. As a big fan of their early stuff I feel conflicted about some aspects of it (it's way overproduced), but I'm really glad they finally released some new material, and overall I think it is pretty great. So "Golden Casket Vol. 1"... Are we in for Vol. 2 in the near future maybe? They supposedly record material for years leading up to this right? Oh and I like Pistol... That track seems like it's taking a beating everywhere I see this album mentioned.

Are we suppose to scratch of the gold thing on the sleeves or not? What is up with those haha...
Trex
I don't think so, pretty sure it's just a little nod to the whole "Golden Casket" ideal. A little golden line separating the planets which also indicate the sides of the records with their corresponding lyrics.

This is a really great set, the packaging is very well realized and definitely adds a layer of depth to the overall feel the album has. The vinyl sounds very nice, though the mixes on these songs are much busier production wise than previous MM albums so it took me a while to appreciate everything going on. Modest Mouse is my favorite band and this release has been very anticipated, initially I was a little put off by it; for years I've become very comfortable with their entire discography and now 15 new songs were suddenly being listened to back to back and it was a little overwhelming to the senses. But now that I've had some time with them I really love this album.

I'm not really a fan of the track Pistol, but I love the album! It's an easy 5 stars.

ghettohmbrglr I can't find any reference to that in the guidelines. Citation?

"that shouldn't matter, you should be using the rating system to rate sound quality, pressing quality, and packaging not on the music itself. it's meant to be a tool for people trying to find the best pressing of an album. this album is probably a 3/5 for me but it sounds awesome with little surface noise so i rate it 5/5."Is this the official rating rule or something? Never seen that anywhere. I thought the rating system was a tool to help people find good music period. I factor in everything when I rate something. I have given albums I love a 2 for a bad pressing and I have given albums I don't care for a 4 for sounding great.

How is it five stars if there is a track you are not a fan of?
