Of the two original issues of Rockin' Down The House on Chill (TUV20 & TUV20R), this is the one to look for as it has both mixes from TUV20 on the flipside and delivers two worthwhile new mixes on side A. The Original Mix of the track is the most chilled one, just an uptempo dub tune with a nice break. The Chop Mix stop-starts the different tracks of the original in different combinations. The effects on the bassline are nice, but MI7 overdo the chopping a bit and the tune starts to drag a lot in the second half. They should have picked the best ideas, instead they chose to show off their DJ abilities. Of the four mixes, the Chop Mix is the only one I wouldn't play in a set. The Drum'n'Bass Remake (note a very early mention of the style - though at that time it was more a slogan than a style description) adds a straight basskick to the rhythm section and thus makes this mix actually sound less drum'n'bass and more hardcore. The good thing about it is that MI7 make use of the possibility of interrupting the basskick and let the breaks take over, and back again, to good effect. Whereas those three mixes sound more or less the same and are based on the same tracks, the Disco Edit is radically different. It comes up with a dry and driving acid bassline, combines disco and house beats and takes only the vocal sample from the original. A bit more variation among the other three mixes wouldn't have hurt, though all have their strengths. And after all, this is not a very complex tune, it just profits from its great combination of a simple vocal hook with bass, breaks and reggae vibes.
