Guidance was actually recorded in 1990 according to Jamie Bissmire.

I have been undusting this one during the week-end, and imo the word "seminal" applies here.Three perfect tracks that haven't aged, or to be more fair that have actually aged, but very nicely so."Amaranth" (sampled from My Mine's "Hypnotic Tango") is a classic set opener or ambient interlude, beatless Detroitish sci-fi cristalline keyboards a la Detroit Escalator, Kenny Larkin or Carl Craig on "Landcruising" a few years later ; "Lifestyle" a quite timeless smooth dub-techno thing with ill vocal samples about being "on the other side of life" ; but my heart melts for "Guidance", in regards to the memories and vibe brought together by this awesome tune. "Guidance" is the epitome of a forgotten, carefree and feelgood but not-so-prestigious UK-house genre somewhere between "tribal" and "progressive", represented for instance by unsung hero Fabi Paras. So, tribal percussions galore and clichéd 'progressions', but on here these are well balanced by the really cool, sinister bassline and vocal DFX sample ("message in the music is to make you feel so strong"), plus ultra cinematic pads and strings that give the whole thing a really epic and dramatic atmosphere. A true beauty!

Cool review! Would love to know some of the other tracks in this style you're referencing, which Fabi Paras tracks etc? Cheers :)

'Amaranth...Love Lies Bleeding' In 5 years of shopping at Londons various 'Music And Video Exchange' chain of record shops, only on several occassions have I seen a written (by the staff) reccomendation on the price tag; "Amaranth Love Lies Bleeding...Tune" Bought it on that reccomendation, and promptly tore off and binned the pricetag when I got home. It is testament to the quality of the track, and it's meaning to me, that I can STILL remember the exact comment, to this day, 4 years on... The dictionary definition of 'Breath-taking'
one life
If Underworld, Orbital and the Chemical Brothers are the top tier of nineties techno acts in the UK, Bandulu hovered just below them for a while with steady, chugging, dub-inflected tracks like Guidance. They concentrated more on beats than melodies - some of their later stuff is pounding, repetitive drums and minimal basslines with the dancefloor the obvious focus. Tracks like "Amaranth - Love lies bleeding" became rarer as time went on...
