Honest ... I’m not saying Where’d You Hide The Body ain’t good, what I am saying is that if you’ve been a fan of James McMurtry and his epic story telling, this may just be his sell-out album. Yeah, it’s that good, and why shouldn’t it be, he’s mixed his sensational picturesque lyrics with some breathtakingly shivering instrumentation that ranges from downright homespun intensity to funky heights. Never before has he enlisted the likes of guitarist David Grissom, along with an unexpected group of backing musicians of the highest quality. All this talent doesn’t so much save James McMurtry from himself, as it opens him open to a wider vision, and a more expansive train of musical thought. This is the album that everyone’s gonna latch onto for it’s rich full flawless sound and clean production. Though you may find me wondering back to his more considered and sparse recordings from time to time, and hoping for more in the future.Review by Jenell Kesler
