Originally released in 1993, this self-titled album was the debut (and only) release from American hard rock band The Graveyard Train, one of the last bands to emerge from the hair metal scene before grunge swept the landscape clear. The Graveyard Train had a bluesy hard rock sound with a bit of Southern style and wailing vocals, much like Tora Tora, Tangier and later Cinderella. More whiskey and sawdust than lipstick and spandex, but with the same basic party rock foundation. It’s simple and formulaic, but it’s also a pretty fun album. “Down to the Wire,” “Walkin’ the Line” and “The Graveyard Boogie” are the highlights.Coming as late as they did to the hair metal party, it’s no wonder The Graveyard Train never made it big. This was the band’s only release, and while it’s never going to make anyone’s “essential” list, The Graveyard Train’s debut is still a fun rock album that is worth checking out if you’re into Tora Tora, Junkyard, Tangier and the like. Guitarist joined Wildside after this band failed to sell a million copies.
