Broadraven
Ken Ishii returns to super banging techno with his FLR moniker. On this double album, EASY FILTERS, Ishii lets all the demons out, and they storm the floor like it was Judgment Day. The tracks segue into one another for maximum impact… and impac is certainly the key here. “Part X” is relentlessly tough, and the way “Part 3” keeps cutting in and out at the start is simply awesome. The disco filters make their way into “Part 8” and “Part 6,” though the beats don’t pound any less. “Part 2” gallops onto the scene, and Part 7” has globular beats to accompany the whinnying sweeps. On the remix disc, of particular note are the mixes by Rebus Tape (which layers on the noise), Wall 5 (which almost sounds like a hardcore version of “Jaws”), and Access 58 (which goes for bright tech-house). These filters are anything but easy.
