Charyoll

This is the second album by Fjieri, a trans-Atlantic cooperation between Italian and British musicians instigated by composer and keyboardist Stefano Panunzi. Cinematic atmospheres is probably one of his primary sources of interest, brilliantly built up here through clever composing, rich synthesizer textures and a solid production (recording, mix, mastering, etc...). The music caresses your brain cells with ambient and jazz inflections (especially via the trumpet of Mike Applebaum or the saxophone of Nicola Alesini) and could stylistically be placed in the lineage of bands like No-Man, whose singer Tim Bowness is in fact guesting on one track. Also on one track and close to the same musical family (Porcupine Tree calling) will be spotted drummer Gavin Harrison and Ø5Ric (providing the track's guitar solo and some slap bass). One of the main contributors on this record is also guitarist and singer Jakko Jakszik, providing strong lyrics and pushing exciting guitar soloing, a perfect match to Panunzi's writing. Drummers abound on this album (5!), ensuring diversity and the organic feel that drum programming alone would never reach, no matter what. My final compliment will go to bass player and composer Nicola Lori, whose bass playing (very upfront in the mix) displays a fluidity and lyricism that fits the music like a glove to a hand! The entire team at work here provides you with a first class safe journey whose travelers would maybe secretly wish to pursue endlessly!
