This is a superb guitar album. "Folk" is merely a starting point and the vein of morbidity in "Dear Companion" is more of a wistful echo here. Her vocal technique, which might be called warbling, is probably an acquired taste and I hope to live long enough to do so. It's effective as pure sound, though. A lyric sheet would have been a kindness. Maybe I was unlucky but the pressing could have been better, unless she really did intend to hiss every letter "s" on the opening track. A classic record of our time.
