This is the weirdest cacophony of micro sounds ever recorded, using a cactus no less. It's like small dwarves have gotten into the walls and are carrying clunky rattling junk, endlessly banging around and squeaking. That's just one part of this vastly diverse chunk of lucid acoustic mayhem. Suddenly there can be a jump to tribal beating almost a rock beat which then transforms again to new timbres and tones. No two tracks are the same, but themes do recur throughout creating an oddly structural series. Jeph Jerman has perfected here the technique of close up microphone recording that captures quiet detailed acoustical events very clearly. These are amplified and produced into a sonic mini drama that really comes to life while being steadily perplexing. It kind of brings to mind Jan Swankmeyer's stop-motion animated films, except here in the sound medium. It's really a treat, and it's a good pressing from Anomalous as usual.
