Notes
Very groovy and apparently completely unknown private press concept album featuring several killer Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5-style Soul-Pop numbers, sung by a very talented young Jackson sound-a-like, Cjon Patterson. The LP was apparently aimed at school children and presents an impressionistic (and at times downright psychedelic) portrait of a young black boy's internal thoughts as he wakes up, heads off to camp, misses his family and eventually returns home. The eerie spoken-word segments w/ the young boy Tony speaking to himself in an echoed voice are very far-out. The LP was the brainchild of singer & actress Laverne "Chip" Fields who wrote all the music and sang the part of Patterson's mother; she was in the reformed Ronnie & The Ronettes in the early 1970's. (Her daughter Kim Fields, later famous for "Facts Of Life," makes an appearance here singing the part of Patterson's sister.) The whole musical vibe is very much in the early 1970's Jackson 5/Motown camp on tracks like the opening Soul number "Who Am I," "In My Reflection," "Crying Is O.K." and "I Am Someone No One Else Can Be." An extremely rare record for Modern Soul fans.
