Katana - Tribal Shock (A13) - Right from the word go the pounding bassline hits you full on. Without wasting any time, there is a huge drum roll that exponentially increases in volume that is spread over a massive 128 beats. When the track finally kicks in there is a slight pause and the pounding beats resume. A little further into the track the very high paced 'techish' melody takes over. I find the melody, and the track on the whole for that matter, very simple, but this simplicity is what makes the track so amazing. The melody now starts to fade out and the same drum roll as before starts to fade back in, only this time when it kicks in we are greeted straight away with the melody. A refreshingly different production from Katana whose sound I found was starting to wear a little thin, and a must for all techno fans. Katana - Dukkha - The b-side of this release, Dukkha has a more electro feel to it. A much less intense track then Tribal Shock, with a much softer bassline. The melody is very regressive and funkier. The synths are very unusual sounding, typical of Katana, but very different from your average tech-trance track, and they compliment the bassline very well. The intro progresses very slowly, and when the track finally does peak it very quickly exits to the outro. I would consider this a great floor filler, but by no means a peak time tune like Tribal Shock.
