Early Waffle
More London stepper classics, this time from a female group borne out of the hip hop generation. Give me your love back /I Want to Know are two mid tempo gems that pretty much drove the demand in the UK for the then sophomore 1991 USA released album. Both tracks were pretty much ignored in the States. Whose audience at the time preferred more uptempo R&B. Only 'Elevator'(which peaked at 74 on billboard) and I'm A Good Woman (peaked at 32) were released as singles. However in the UK, the mid tempo joints were discovered and played by the premier London modern soul DJ’s such as legendary stepper DJ, Andy B, who reigned supreme in London with his modern soul radio show every Sunday evening during his time on reggae/soul pirates Superme & later Station Fm, T.C Fords, The infamous and very popular DJ/MC duo, Desi Gee and Barry White, Nigel B, (Simple) Simon P., P.C. Mistri, Mr Eastender, Cass Manhattan, GQ Vibert all inadvertently forming a Cartel like group of trendsetting movers/ shakers and tastemakers (plus many more) who ushered in a new era of steppers from mainly R&B artists of the Hip Hop generation, played on the radio and out on the circuit in dances with the usual 70 and 80;s backdrop and sprinkling of contemporary R&B such as 'I Want To Know’ a huge favourite amongst the ladies at the now infamous blues dances taking place every weekend across London. The testament to the aforementioned DJ’s taste in shaping the musical landscape at the time is the near cult status and demand for this album in the years following, which has continued to today
