In the years since NEON GOLDEN, The Notwist have continued to put out their moody mix of electronics and rock, and on CLOSE TO THE GLASS, they get their blips out with "Signals" and their more tribal percussion with the title track. "Casino" and "Steppin' In" take a more acoustic route, but "7-Hour-Drive" dives into layers of shoegaze-like haze and jangle. "Run Run Run," on the other hand, revels in its electronic backing, while "Lineri" wanders as if lost in a computerized jam session. "They Follow Me" ends the album with a string-based swoon, and you'll want to get even closer.
