When this record was released I had not yet ever set foot on a dancefloor. It was only recently that I found this song in an old 2002 Danny Howells Essential mix that someone had posted up on tranceaddict of all places. Its a kickass Essential Mix and I recommend it to anyone who's a fan of classic dance music. This song a very creative and catchy piece of break beat featuring the familiar vocal clip from the movie "Apocalypse Now". Its Martin Sheen's voice. The whole record is absolutely great, all 3 versions, with my choice being the Bangin Mix. The reason I'm writing about this one is because it seems to me that tracks had so much more personality back in the 90's than they do now. I could be completely blitzed and the moment I heard the melody out in a club I would know exactly what this song was. In comparison, most (but of course NOT ALL modern dance music) fits neatly into a little genre box. It could be minimal, or tech house, or techno, doesnt matter. Seems like most popular producers are out to make music of a certain style for a certain fan base. The tracks are usually dj friendly with a nice cozy 2 minute intro and outro, and of course, no surprises. The end result of this generification of club music is very monotone dj sets where the DJ permanently gazes down at his laptop screen whatever software he chooses, the cpu does the beatmatching labor, and the set turns into a marathon flatline of shit that bores the pants of almost everyone in the room. Its unfortunate that most dj's dont have the balls to try to mix something different like this in their sets nowadays. God forbid the kick drum takes a break and they change the pace or the genre in the middle of set. No no no, just keep the kick drum going no matter what and pray that the crowd has ingested enough shit that night that they wont notice. Well I notice it and its getting pretty boring as of recent. Hopefully a new trend will develop where producers feel inclined to make their tracks stand out a bit more going forward. I would be very excited to see this.

Fair shout Mark, perfectly expressed! The 'Flying Mix' on the original copy is a bit special too...
