Pantha du Prince gives up his album to a bevy of remixers, who then offer XI VERSIONS OF BLACK NOISE. First up is dub techno master Moritz von Oswald, who sets the reverb to high with a mellow take on "Welt Am Draht," before Die Vögel brings a horn chorus and Animal Collective introduce their guitars and Gregorian-like vocals to the track. Lawrence adds a touch of tribal percussion to his deeper vocal-less version of "Stick to My Side," while Four Tet is much brighter and upbeat. Efdemin plunges the track into deep house territory, and Carsten Jost lets the track twinkle with a a sinister edge, as much as Walls lets the track glitter with their guitar work. "A Nomad's Retreat" gets treated to some layers of fuzz courtesy of The Sight Below, and "Satellite Sniper" goes in for a psychedelic swirl from Hieroglyphic Being. Pantha du Prince, himself, lends a slower spin to "Lay in a Shimmer," letting the shimmer lie in place until the beat finally arrives. A solid, diverse collection.
