Stevie was free of Motown... then he went back....but not before he gained Full Creative Control!!! Music to my ears! Even though "Music of My Mind" wasn't a blast out the gate, it still was a powerful statement on where Stevie was at in his life! Listening to this, you might even say that "Mind" was a little weird for Stevie, but that's the point. Remember, these came out of sessions where he didn't have to conform to the Motown Sound, and he also was experimenting with his new best friends, the electronic keyboards and great sound effects. For Stevie it was liberating, and for us it was a gift.
