IT'S BEEN FOUR years since the last 3Ds release The Venus Trail. So let me be the first to tell you it was well worth the wait. This one will easily become a favorite of everyone who listens to it first time anytime. The dueling guitars of David Saunders and David Mitchell (as well as sharing vocal duties) is exemplary, frantic and gigantic in keeping on the fringe of rock/pop boundaries (as well as exploring oceans of its own). Fans of the 3Ds will revel in the broadened "rippingly ripe" sound - slightly toned down - compared to their last record, as well as a brief reprise to the nautical theme in Castaway. True to the New Zealand 'Dunedin Sound' songs like "Seven Days Of Kindness," "I Believe In You" and "Ben" ring true with rolling base-tones, ticking percussion and quiet to thundering guitars over the top of melodic riffs that are to die for. This is one of the best sounding records I have heard this year and one that immediately goes into the top ten. Get it. And dance with the angels like the rest of us.
