Notes
Per https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/latin/8257748/amazon-nacional-records-latin-album-texasLook at My Soul: The Latin Shade of Texas Soul is “a celebration of soul music within the Latino communities of Texas” in the 1950s and 1960s. This timely exploration of the deeply grooving musical fusion resulting from the “convergence of brown and black artists,” will be released this Friday (Oct. 26). As of Friday, Amazon Music listeners will be able to ask Alexa to play Look At My Soul.
Producer Adrian Quesada, a Texas native known as a member of Austin’s Grammy-winning Grupo Fantasma calls it "a unique Texas take on what we know as soul music in a way that could have only happened in this state."
The project preserves the legacy of Chicano music from Texas, often deemed brown-eyed soul and also known as Chicano soul, with new recordings of songs made with a group of multi-generational artists who came together for the project. They include Tejano legend Ruben Ramos ("El Gato Negro"), members of Los Lobos, "crossover soul" singer Johnny Benavidez and up-and-comer Amalia Mondragon, previously lead vocalist with the group The Chamanas.
