As a fan of 'Twitch' era Ministry and early Skinny Puppy, amongst other industrial/EBM/synth groups, I'm always listening out for bands with a similar sound. I heard A Split Second for the first time fairly recently and quickly decided I had to buy a tape of there's. I went with this release after hearing the title track, 'Kiss of Fury', which is definitely the best track on the album, and quite different from the others with it's slower and more atmospheric pace. The Second half, I think features the better tracks. 'Crash Course in Seduction', 'Into The Burning Hole', 'Firewalker' and the aforementioned 'Kiss of Fury', are all great songs. The first half however is a bit weak, with 'The Parallax View' being the only real standout track. The overall sound is great, full of nice basslines and synth hooks with quite a dense mix. However, I can't help but think the drums could have sounded weightier and packed a bit more punch. Maybe that's just my own preference after listening to the heavy drum samples on Ministry's 'Twitch' and 'Land of Rape and Honey' but the bulk of the drums sound quite bland. The synth and bass work is great though, and with some good vocals and lyrics and a handful of standout tracks, this is a good album to listen to when you want something a little lighter on the industrial spectrum.
