'Are You Out There?' has not stood the test of time and sounds, twenty-three years on, fucking shocking. The spoken-word vocal is incredibly naff, though there was a brief period in '95 in which that was a popular thing (cf. Technocat). But then the 'let the heavens open' refrain kicks in, and the sirens blare, and that was the point at which the roof would be blown off whatever grim, sweaty, crowded dancefloor you were wedged into, as all about you proper 'ad it, ciggies were waved, drinks spilled, handbags tripped over. At the time, 'Are You Out There?' was a cinematic epic that almost defied classification. Epic in nature and in duration. Clocking in at twenty minutes, it could give some of the Blue Amazon tracks a run for their money. A remix surfaced about a decade ago now, by Vandalism. It's worth tracking down as it's actually pretty tasteful, dragging this overly-earnest slab of nerve-shredding bombast into the twenty-first century.

Honestly I don't get it. I listened to both sides, twice. Boring formulaic trance awith violin synths and typical whispy vox. Whatever, very forgettable to me.
Peras
You just wouldn't 'get it' unless you were on a dancefloor in 1995/96.

You listened to this in 2012, you missed the moment by 17 years, no wonder you didn't get it!

I had this track in 95 then it got stolen, i managed to get another one in 12" version from shop in 99 and never looked back till it got scratched some how. I been looking on net for a while till i found this site, brill iv found crescendo are you out there which is the best track iv heard with its slow build up and banging BASS line. Any one into house/trance should have this track, the vocals are trick. They dont make them like this anymore, running outta creativity i guess. This track plays well whilst driving with subs. AA ++

Normally I'm not the biggest fan of house, especially not progressive house, but, this record is simply incredible! The production and flow are top notch, and teh vocals are remarkable, telling quite a story! The track has a nice little minute long vocal intro to it that builds and build till the track explodes! This is a must have, works great as a set opener, or a midpoint track. Very hard to find, but, worth the effort and money you'd need to pay for this old classic. 5/5 from me. They just don't make music like they used to I guess.
