"I came up with the idea of a nation-wide talent search to include a sampler of new music in a Han O Disc type pressing. After gaining support from both parties, we announced the open contest in D.I.Y.'s May '81 issue and received hundreds of songs from all over the country. After listening to all the songs, myself and four others, we selected two songs & bands each (ten total) to appear on selections, attempting to have a wide range of musical samples of music that is happening "underground" across America. While the new pressing process can't make a basic recording sound like a multi-million dollar production, the method transfers more of the "real" feel from the master tape to the record. Each Song was recorded under different circumstances and budgets, ranging from top quality studios & producers to basement and garage studios with new producers.

One side is straight ahead, the other a little more varied, hoping to expose everyone to different types of sounds. We hope this album sparks your interest to make some of your own music and find out more about the magazine, record process and bands involved. We are making this music available in two forms; one is a clear virgin vinyl pressing for those who just want the music, and the other is the full limited edition HAN-O-DISC collector version." - Taken from the press release that came with the record.
