A superb compilation which really is full of the kind of tracks which were played on the pirates back in the late 1990s - at least on the West London pirates I used to listen to, anyway. Many CDs claim to be the "true sound of the underground", but they weren't, at least not once the compilation saw a release. But there are no such worries here - this truly was the sound of London's UKG pirates circa 1998-1999.Completely free of any Craig David-style chart hits or So Solid-style champagne-worshipping nonsense, this one is for the original "house and garage" crew. A good variety of tracks, from deep and dubby instrumentals, to full-on vocal tunes which should please the ladies crew.My copy used to have a £9.99 sticker on it, which made it amazing value even back then, never mind now! Sadly, there aren't anywhere near enough "real underground" speed garage/early UKG compilations, and way too many HMV-friendly mixes and compilations, but this one is one of the essentials for fans of early UKG.

Yep, the same goes for any dance music genre. At the end of the day, they want to make money and the only way to do that is to put out lame, crappy comps filled with mostly chart stuff. Sad, but true."Sadly, there aren't anywhere near enough "real underground" speed garage/early UKG compilations, and way too many HMV-friendly mixes and compilations, but this one is one of the essentials for fans of early UKG. Awesome collection + mix. Missing link between rave and UKG?
Tholmeena
Not quite - jungle is the "missing link" - listen to the basslines on releases like "The Rollers Convention E.P. Part 3" to hear where "speed" garage producers got a lot of their ideas from. And that's not a criticism, by the way ;)
