Kanek
via http://harshnoise.org/John Wiese is generally not a very popular artist in Poland (even judging by noise standards) and he definitely deserves more coverage – that’s why I thought that getting back to the CD which came out three years ago wasn’t such a bad idea. Plus, to be honest, I’ve bought a copy of the album only recently and owning a physical release always motivates me to pay more attention to its contents. It’s generally hard to keep up with the amount of steady output coming from Wiese. He is one of the guys who just can’t stop and produce at least several records each year. While it’s certainly not as much as some other artists put out, there is so much going on in the noise scene that it’s easy to lose track of his activities. The album contains three studio tracks and one live recording. All of them are basically similar – Circle Snare is a collection of messed up, disjointed, heavily edited field recordings, abstract and noisy digital artifacts which are scattered across the stereo field. And to be honest, listening to it feels great. It’s not nearly as harsh as some of his previous albums, but its complexity may be even more demanding to the listener than heavy distortion and ridiculous gain. The sound quality is really good as well. There is a lot going on in each of the tracks, and yet each sound remains vivid and distinguishable. I wouldn’t mind more low end though. This is a great album. It would also make a great soundtrack for a Lady Gaga sex tape edited by Efukt guy in Youtube Poop style.
