I've picked up a copy of this. On playing it I notice that the records are labeled up side one, with the reverse as side four, and the other record as side two with the reverse as side three. The tracks are all in the correct order as stated on the sleeve. Is this just a quirk of this particular record or a labelling error?

This was quite common at the time. The idea was that records like this could be played on record players with auto changers in the correct order. Original copies of 'Electric Ladyland', 'Tommy' and 'Woodstock' are lined up in the same way. I seem to recall that when 'Electric Ladyland' was first issued on CD in the UK Polydor accidentally pressed it with sides 1 & 3 on disc one and 2 & 4 on disc two.
